ACID DROP
Hell yeah. Big ‘ol Acid Drop 1984. Rockin’ the Converse. Socks pushed down along with shirt and shorts, courtesy of the thrift store. My board, a blank ALVA deck straight from HOT SKATES my local skate shop at the time. Lovin' my SUN IN hair. I think the first POWELL PERALTA video (Bones Brigade) played, non-stop on the VCR.
LANCE MOUNTAIN was my idol at the time. His style and tricks, street skating, I could relate to. Skateboarding was my life from the second I woke up I would put on my shoes and socks and hit the front door and be on my way into the streets of Santa Ana. Sometimes as early as 6am. I’d spend all day skateboarding, I didn’t have many friends.
Skateboarding was the first thing that touched my soul. I was really happy then. The times ahead, the next four years, the best years of my life. Making friends, learning tricks and just skating to be skating. I had so much energy, skateboarding made me tired. Skateboarding made it so I could slow down and still go fast at the same time. Some of the friends I made during this time, some were lifelong friends, now passed away. We don’t see each other everyday like we used to back then, but we see each other every once in a while and it was comforting. Skateboarding was my escape, it’s where I fit in, and I was good at it. I was good at it. I’m still wearing Converse and I still skate. Street skater for life.
