QUIET MANN

CHINESE THEATRE (MANN’S CHINESE THEATRE)
HOLLYWOOD BLVD., HOLLYWOOD, CA

FEBRUARY 2025

  • There I was, unknowingly standing on Jack Nicholson’s star with Billy Crystal’s just a few feet away. I’ve always liked Jack Nicholson. I doubt either one of them has been back to this spot since the day The Walk of Fame star was sunk into the sidewalk. The sidewalk, now empty, the lights surreal. During the day this spot is crowded with tourists and folks selling sausage rolls and various touristy items, I typically walk in the street, just along the curb to bypass the crowds. It was all mine that night. I could easily hop over the barricades and disappear into the labyrinth that is Ovation Hollywood/Hollywood and Highland but that wasn’t the plan. This caught my eye as I slowly passed by. I appreciate this side of Hollywood that I get to see, free from the mass of humans that consumes the entire block all day and night until they skulk and scurry back to from where they came. I didn’t need anyone else around. I felt like I was standing on film history, and I was. I was able to take my time, see the footprints, read the signatures. All the greats are there and that night nobody could see it like me, now you get to see it as I did.

  • ‘QUIET MANN’ isolates celebrity in a quiet frame. The use of barricades, reflection, and self-inclusion elevates the emptiness into a state of reverence. It’s iconic space made human again, and eerily beautiful.
